HOMEConnecticut Wins 2008 Public Program Award from CT American Planning Association

The HOMEConnecticut Campaign will be awarded the 2008 Public Program Award from the American Planning Association’s Connecticut Chapter on December 12 in Middletown.

HOMEConnecticut was enacted by the General Assembly in 2007 as a way to encourage municipalities to meet their housing needs – and the state’s growing housing affordability problem – after a huge run-up in prices between 2000 and 2007. The program provides planning and grants and monetary incentives to towns that create mixed-income housing in locations of their choosing.

Modeled after a Massachusetts statute that is creating thousands of units in the Bay State, HOMEConnecticut is now engaging dozens of CT towns in the planning of incentive housing zones to locate new homes for workers, families, young professionals and elderly residents who need new housing options that are affordable and appropriate to their circumstances.
